Submitting Allegations of Academic Misconduct

Top 10 things to know for 教师 和顾问

  1. Consider if this was a mistake 和 a teachable moment before submitting an allegation. 
  2. 教师-You are the content expert. Assume the person reviewing your submission knows nothing about the subject.
  3. The entire academic misconduct process can sometimes take up to 1-4 weeks.
  4. 教师 are present at both hearing types:
    • 学生 Accept Responsibility = Administrative Hearing
    • Student Denies Responsibility - Committee Hearing
  5. Examples of Academic Dishonesty can be found in the 学生行为准则.
  6. The professor determines the final grade. The 学术行为 Committee Chair determines the sanction.
  7. 学生 may have an adviser for support. An adviser must be an OU faculty, staff or student. Advisers are present at, but do not participate in hearings.
  8. If submitting an allegation near the end of the semester, 请 complete your submission within 48 hours of when grades are due 和 submit an “I” grade for the student’s final grade.
  9. 学生 will continue their coursework in the class while the process is ongoing 和 faculty should grade each assignment based on its own merit.
  10. Notifications for hearings will be sent via 韦德体育app官网 email calendar invites with a zoom link 和 information packet for review. Advisers are also copied on the official hearing notification sent to the student.

Before submitting an allegation of academic misconduct involving plagiarism, we encourage you to review the examples of previously submitted materials (#1, #2  #3). If the material you are submitting is extensive in length, 请 make sure to review example #3 with notes indicating the exact pages where the alleged plagiarized passages could be found. It is important to connect the alleged plagiarized passage(s) in the student's submission to the alleged plagiarized source material(s).  

As the reporting professor, you need to supply:

  • A copy of the student’s submitted work, clearly outlining the alleged plagiarized passages, 和
  • A copy of the source material(s) for the alleged plagiarized passages. Links to the plagiarized materials are not sufficient.
Cheating or unauthorized collaboration

Before submitting an allegation of academic misconduct involving cheating 和/or unauthorized collaboration, 请

Ensure that your written allegation:

  • clearly describes how your classroom instruction 和/or syllabus educated students on the topics of cheating 和 unauthorized collaboration.
  • identifies how the student's work clearly st和s out from the rest of the class's work. 
  • clearly describes the alleged infraction with supporting materials; 和
  • names of each student involved, even if you do not believe a particular student was responsible for alleged misconduct.
学生 accusing other students

When the allegation originates from another student, your written allegation should include the name of the student(s) who brought forth the allegation. The student(s) making allegations of misconduct will be asked to meet with the 教务长 office.
